Reichert Xpert and Xpert Plus

The Reichert Xpert was introduced in around 1989 as an improvement to the NCT although not a replacement for it as both were manufactured simultaneously.

The Xpert uses the same principles of operation for measuring the IOP but has a CRT monitor to view the eye. It also has alignment markings which appear when the eye is in focus which need to be manually aligned by use of the joystick. When the markings coincide, the instrument fires automatically. The instrument also has a printer.

The Xpert Plus is similar in design but has a motorised UP/DOWN facility. This is also used to automatically adjust the alignment.

COMMON FAULTS

1. Instrument not powering up at all
2. Not auto firing when aligned
3. Showing "No Applanation"

1. INSTRUMENT NOT POWERING UP AT ALL
If the instrument does not power up when switched on, it probably requires and electronic repair. Call for a service visit.

2. NOT AUTO FIRING WHEN ALIGNED
If the instrument does not auto fire when aligned or the alignment mark disappears when in the centre, the optics need to be serviced. Call for a service visit.

3. SHOWING "NO APPLANATION"
If the instrument shows "No Applanation" after it has fired, the optics need a service.
