Oculus Field Screeners

Oculus Field Screeners differ from all others in that they have a small, fully enclosed bowl which the patient views through a fixed convex lens. Being fully enclosed, Oculus field screeners can be used in relatively bright conditions.

The most common type of Oculus Field Screener is the Oculus Centrefield. This instrument has an inbuilt PC running on Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or Windows 98 depending on age.

The bowl is opaque and the stimulus is projected onto the rear of the screen. Two motor are used, one to rotate the stimulus through 360 degrees and the other to move from the centre to the periphery.

As with any PC based instrument, it is important to run the correct shut down procedure and not to just switch the unit off. Unlike the Henson 6000, the Oculus does have a keyboard and mouse so windows diagnostics are easy to run if problems occur however there is no CD ROM drive so it is difficult to re-install Windows.
