Medmont Field Screeners

Medmont Field Screeners are made in Australia and are generally well built and reliable. They use radially arranged fixed LED's as stimulus points and therefore have a greater density of points in the centre than at the periphery. Medmont Screeners only use single point stimulus and do not use multiple point stimulus as on Henson Instruments and older Friedmann units.

Depending on the age of the instrument, there are several models, the most recent being the M700. All models consist of a bowl with a fitted chinrest and the program is controlled by a separate Windows PC running Medmont Studio software attached via an RS232 connection.

The older version, the M600W (W for windows ) has it's own M600W software but this does not include the Estermann Drivers test. The M600W can use the later Medmont Studio software which does have a recognised drivers test but early models may need a hardware upgrade and this can be quite expensive.

One of the advantages of a field screener with a separate computer rather than having one built in is that if the computer becomes faulty, you can simply buy a new one, connect it up and load the software. This can help you to avoid costly repair bills for built in computers which may have to use particularly expensive components. However, having an expensive laptop next to your instrument does have security implications in preventing it from being stolen.

Medmont studio software is licensed and has a code which must be transferred from your old PC to the new one. If your computer hard drive completely fails and you are unable to retrieve the license code, you may have to buy another one from Medmont and this can be very expensive. I would recommend you keep a backup of your hard drive.
